Sustainable Farming Discussion Group – River Farm Tonimbuk

June 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

You are invited to the next WPCLN Sustainable Farming discussion group at River Farm at Tonimbuk.

Robert & Ingrid own and lease a number of properties in the region running beef cattle, and look forward to welcoming us back to ‘River Farm’.
Over the past couple of years they have been monitoring how extended rest periods between grazing has influenced pasture growth, species composition, soil health and animal productivity. Four different grazing regimes were monitored including;
1. Conventional grazing management (short rotations)
2. Closed canopy grazing (grazed when pasture at base is being shaded)
3. Extended rest periods between grazing (7 months)
4. Extended rest periods between grazing (11-12 months)

We will discuss learnings from their demonstration, and view the pasture.

In addition, we have taken soil samples and plant tissue samples from poor pasture, and good pasture in the same paddock to help us better understand the correlations. We will share these results also.

An interesting morning is assured!
