GROWING INDUSTRIAL HEMP, LUCERNE, POPPIES – RSVP is required for biosecurity purposes.
The WPCLN Sustainable Farming Discussion Group is revisiting Andrew & Cathy’s farm on Tues 26th Feb.
The format of the day will be slightly different to normal as there will be a morning and afternoon session. The morning session is for our discussion group plus local farmers & the afternoon session is opened up to anyone interested in industrial hemp. Farmers are welcome to attend both or either sessions.
The morning session will feature discussion and a farm walk with the focus on establishing lucerne, results of the poppy crop (2018) and a new trial with the soilkee pasture renovator.
The afternoon session will focus on growing industrial hemp. 6 varieties of hemp were planted in Nov & Dec 2018 at various sowing rates with the aim of the trial being to learn how different varieties perform in Gippsland conditions.
The afternoon will include;
An introduction to the uses and potential markets for industrial hemp;
Information on the legal requirements for growing industrial hemp;
Discussion of paddock preparation, varieties grown, seeding rates, fertilisers, irrigation;
Plenty of time for questions and answers
