Multi-storey farming with trees – Another year on!

June 6, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Clinton is a forester and a farmer. 3 ½ years ago Clinton set up a demonstration plot and planted 3 species of trees for high value agroforestry. However, the plot was designed to allow the continued use of the planted area for crops and livestock. A wide range of crops and pastures were sown under the trees with some proving to be highly productive.
This has continued in the past year with some new successes and the odd failure! Livestock continued to graze under the trees at various times during the year! We have also been monitoring soil moisture, soil biology and soil chemistry in the past year to further understand the benefits of a multi storey farming system.
Additional learnings have come out of this very unique trial which will challenge your thinking about multi-storey farming with trees!
