Cannibal Creek Landcare Planting Day – Tynong North

August 20, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 1:30 pm

Free

The Cannibal Creek Landcare Group will be hosting a tree planting day at Arthur Thorpe’s property at Tynong North as part of the Powerful Owl project. Come along to lend a hand and stay for lunch.

The Powerful Owl project is strengthening community connections to the local environment by protecting and restoring the habitat of the Powerful Owl through on-ground revegetation and conservation activities as well as education about the threatened species and its habitat. Our local Landcare groups are collaborating with our Landcare Network to organise and deliver on-ground works involving revegetation and fencing off threatened species habitat. The aim of the project is to protect and restore Powerful Owl habitat which will in turn also benefit the Sooty Owl, Masked Owl and Leadbeater’s Possum. We will be fencing off remnant vegetation on private land and revegetate the area with midstorey and understorey plants to enhance the habitat for these species. Wide streamside corridors that connect with riparian forested areas will also be fenced to exclude grazing and revegetated to enhance the habitat for nesting and roosting. We aim to connect existing habitat with new plantings to link with Bunyip State Park where the Powerful Owl is known to occur. Landholders, volunteers, Landcare Groups and the Network will be involved in the delivery of the project.
