Farmers are invited to attend this field day focusing on regenerative horticulture with Andre Leu.
Andre Leu has been farming organic tropical fruits since 1972. Andre along with wife Julia purchased a 150acre farm in the Daintree in 1991 where Andre has continued to be a pioneer in the development of the commercial growing, harvesting, packaging and marketing of exotic organic tropical fruits.
The Leu’s fruit farm is surrounded by conventional sugar cane farms. The soil in the sugar cane farms has approx. 1% organic matter. In contrast, Andre’s fruit farm soil has approx. 6% organic matter. When it rains the water drains straight down into the soil, so the growing season is much longer.
The morning session will focus on Regenerative Horticulture, how Andre applies it to his farm, and how the principles could be applied in West Gippsland. This workshop is geared towards horticulture growers, but all farmers are welcome.
The afternoon session will comprise a farm walk and discussion at Ross and Tara’s Sherwood Park Orchard.
