Bob and Robyn have been at Torwood for 45 years and over that time have planted more than 100,000 trees, transforming the landscape.
Whilst many members have been there before, the forestry blocks are at an interesting stage – second round of thinning (at 10 yrs) which raises a number of management questions. We have also been measuring Soil Carbon (Peter Ronalds) within the forest as well as tree growth rates and the amount of grazing being available. All these results will be presented and discussed. There is also a failed block of silver top which raises the question of site or species? If weather is suitable those interested could also take a 4WD trip to small blocks of Coastal Redwoods 13yo and Blackwoods 12yo.
There will be plenty of things to see and discuss. We haven’t had much opportunity to get out and about so make the most of it.
